Southampton-West Ham United Preview

David Moyes is "sure" West Ham will stave off the drop despite heading into Sunday's game against fellow strugglers Southampton in the bottom three.

After finishing seventh in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League semi-finals last season, the Hammers have won just six of their 26 league games so far this campaign to make relegation a stark possibility.

But Moyes is confident his team will have enough to stay up, telling reporters: "Nine or 10 teams are involved at the bottom and we have to work a way of being safe come the end of the season and I'm sure we will be.

"I think they're ready, we're in a good frame of mind and will pick up the points we need to not be at the bottom end of the table."

Saints sit bottom of the division, though a recent upturn in results has seen them lose just once in their last four matches, including a dramatic 3-3 draw against Tottenham last time out.

Ruben Selles acknowledged they must go for maximum points in all of their last 10 games of the season, starting with Sunday's visit to the London Stadium.

"We are alive and we are going to fight for every point," Selles said. "For us every game is a must win and it doesn't who your opponent is.

"Every game is a big game for us and it's been like that. We need to perform and do things properly and win the games.

"I hope we can play our game and stress them in the situations and take advantage."

West Ham - Declan Rice

Before the international break, only Manchester City's Rodri (243) had won possession more times than Rice (232) in the Premier League this season, while the Hammers midfielder also has the second most progressive carries (222). He comes into this game full of confidence after scoring for England during the international break and will be hoping to have another big impact against Southampton.

Southampton - Che Adams

Adams' strike in the draw with Spurs took him onto five Premier League goals for the season, but he failed to score in his lone Scotland appearance of the international break. Now back with Saints, he will hoping to get back on the scoresheet here.

Saints have picked up as many points (eight) in their six league games under Selles than they had in their previous 17 and have picked up the highest share of their Premier League points away from home this season (57 per cent).

But the Hammers have collected 75 per cent of their points at the London Stadium and are unbeaten in four on home soil, while they have lost just one of their last 10 top-flight meetings with Saints.

No other teams have kept less Premier League clean sheets this season than West Ham (five) and Southampton (four) so this game should have goals, but the Hammers' solid home form and great record against Saints should see them collect three points.
