Snapshot: Thompson's consistent five years at Kansas State helped him to maintain some draft buzz despite dealing with major injuries, including a season-ending one in 2020. The three-time team captain left Manhattan as a 40-game starter who finished second in school history for passing yards (7,134), trailing only former first-round pick Josh Freeman. If he is unable to find success as a quarterback, there could be some interest as a positional convert, if he can get strong enough to contribute on special teams and win as a blocker.

Strengths: Smart decision-maker who won't force unnecessary passes. Good sense for pressure and maintains his composure through it. Capable runner who has the size and burst to pick up yardage (1,087 career yards, 26 TDs at K-State). Has a fluid and easy throwing stroke that comes out with nice quickness. Toughness isn't a question.

Weaknesses: Average arm talent leads to some passes fluttering when he has to push the ball deep. Accuracy is more general than precise, and he pulls his receivers out of their stride on longer-developing passes. Timing and control as a passer isn't reliable. Lack of developmental potential is concerning.

Pro comparison: Sam Ehlinger, Colts -- Thompson's reliance on his legs declined in his last two seasons, but he has sufficient athleticism and toughness to keep plays alive. Even though he'll likely never rise above the backup role, he could spark interest like Ehlinger did as someone who can be trusted to help fill out the quarterback room.
