Scouting Report

40 time: 5.23

Projection: Fifth Round

Overview: Dominant performer in FCS Patriot League, earning multiple first-team honors and wrapping up his career as a five-year starter. His length limitations and lower level of competition will make some nervous, but Zakelj should be able to find a backup job and add positional flexibility in the NFL.

Strengths: Aggressive and puts in overtime work. Effective at sealing angles in the run game. Very patient with his punch and won't overextend to initiate contact. Takes short and choppy steps that give a lot of control with his engagement. Plus lateral agility to mirror rushers around the edge. Sharp technique and footwork allows him to stall out inside moves.

Weaknesses: Short arms (32 1/2 inches) will lead many teams to view him as a guard at the next level. Plays a tad high and it could hurt him if forced to play inside. Struggles against the long arm move. Played at a relatively low level of competition, even for an FCS player.

Pro Comp: Alex Bars, Chicago Bears -- Bars came in with sub 33-inch arms during the draft process on a taller frame, but his combination of strength, technique, and quickness have allowed him to find starting work in the NFL, although he isn't a long term solution at any position.
