Scouting Report

40 time: 4.63

5th Round

Overview: Originally a high school quarterback who led his team to a Montana state championship as a senior, Andersen started at both running back and linebacker during his freshman year with the Bobcats. He moved back to QB as a sophomore and earned FCS All-America honors as a dominant rusher who collected 21 touchdowns with his legs. He returned to the defensive side of the ball in 2019 and stayed there for the following three years, becoming one of the most dominant defenders in the FCS and earning an invite to the 2022 Senior Bowl.

Strengths: Good space athlete who can move into the nickel role against tight ends if needed. Impressive speed allowed him to run down almost anyone at the FCS level. Combination of size and explosiveness will be enticing on special teams. Strength as a tackler is sufficient. Gears up quickly in man coverage. Good awareness and feel for his surroundings in coverage.

Weaknesses: Still somewhat thinly built relative to his frame and may need to add weight as a pro. Angles in pursuit are inexact. Jump in competition will put a larger strain on his processing ability. Long legs lead to getting tangled up against elusive runners and precise cutbacks. Struggles to string together adjustments without compromising his balance.

Pro Comp: Isaiah Simmons, Arizona Cardinals -- Andersen isn't as fast or versatile as Simmons was coming out of Clemson, but his linear build and experience in the nickel role create some of the same positives and negatives. Andersen's athleticism will help ease his transition quite a bit, but he'll still likely need a year or two before taking over a starting role.
