Snapshot: Despite being considered a mid-round candidate after wrapping up his junior year in Cincinnati, Ridder decided to return for his senior year in hopes of catapulting his value higher. He delivered with that good year, passing for 3,334 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading the first Group of 5 team to the college football playoffs after an undefeated regular season. His growth as a passer has been relatively stagnant, though, and his hopes of being a dark-horse first-round candidate seem to have largely flamed out.

Late interest in Ridder and a draft class without a unanimous top prospect could make the Cincinnati quarterback a wildcard. Seeing him off the board in the top 20 wouldn't be a major upset, but it also shouldn't be a surprise if teams wait until the second day to roll the dice on Ridder.

Strengths: Totes NFL-caliber arm strength to drive passes through tough windows. Solid athlete who can bail the pocket and extend plays with his legs. Promising touch thrower who can change ball arc and velocity with efficiency. Calm when the pocket collapses and will keep his eyes downfield through adversity.

Weaknesses: Release is often long and winding, and it's not consistent from throw to throw. Late to set his feet and deliver in the short game, and his anticipation is an area of concern. Feel for pressure in the pocket isn't refined and he's late to adapt to it. Pulls his receivers out of their stride with placement mishaps. He is a paint-inside-the-lines type of passer who wants to see openings before releasing.

Pro comparison: Drew Lock, Seahawks -- It's easy to fall in love with the athleticism to extend plays and the velocity to drive passes through tight windows, but the same lack of flow and feel that hurt Lock as a prospect is present in Ridder's game. If he can't become more consistent with his ball placement and anticipation it could lead to some sour performances as a young pro.
