Scouting Report

40 time: 5.12

Projection: Fifth Round

Overview: One of the most highly recruited linemen in UTSA history, Burford was a local San Antonio product who decided to stay in town. Stepped into the starting lineup immediately, playing two years as a guard before transitioning outside to tackle. Collected all-conference honors in both 2020 and 2021, and would parlay his impressive growth into an invite to the Senior Bowl. He's not a polished product, but his tools are enticing for a developmental tackle.

Strengths: Quick out of his stance and will catch linebackers by surprise in the run game. Feet and hands work well together. In sync pass blocker with smooth pass sets. Punch is quick and accurate. Consistently drives his legs and works through defenders as a run blocker. Nasty mentality leads to some impressive finishes.

Weaknesses: Needs more weight. Tends to duck his head and lean too much as a run blocker. Comes out of his stance too tall and gives up leverage. Has experience as a guard but will need to get bigger and stronger to play it in the NFL.

Pro Comp: Jamarco Jones, Seattle Seahawks -- A fifth-round selection in 2018 hasn't been able to step into a starting role full-time yet, but he has been a valuable backup. Burford is in the same category as a slightly short tackle who plays hard, smart, and has enough athleticism to stick as a backup.
