Nyman returns for his third Winter Games after top-20 finishes in the downhill in 2006 and 2010. He was groomed as a slalom skier and began his World Cup career with a technical focus back in 2002 after winning gold at that year’s junior world championships, but his size led to the switch to the speed disciplines. That’s resulted in four World Cup podiums, all in the downhill. Two of those podiums have been first-place finishes with the most recent coming in December 2012. That win, earned in Val Gardena, Italy, the site of his previous victory in 2006, announced Nyman’s return after he missed the 2012 season because of a torn Achilles tendon. Overall, Nyman finished 20th in the 2013 downhill standings, his best result since ranking 19th in 2008 and peaking at 10th in 2007. In addition to a pair of Olympic appearances, Nyman has competed in four world championships (2007, '09, '11 and '13). In 2007, he turned in his best performance at worlds with a ninth-place finish in the super-combined and a 12th in super-G.
