The youngest American skier at the 2010 Games, where she was just 16, Caldwell heads to Sochi with higher expectations this time despite sustaining a pair of major knee injuries between Olympics. After finishing 10th in aerials in Vancouver, she earned her first two World Cup podiums early in the 2011 season before tearing an ACL. She was back on the slopes for only a few weeks before suffering that same injury one year later. Caldwell finally returned to the World Cup circuit late last season and quickly earned a second-place finish Dec. 15, though she hasn’t finished higher than 11th in four events on the circuit since. She has her sights set on a medal in Sochi, but will face stiff competition against several impressive aerialists from China. A former competitive gymnast, she is one of only three women in the world - and the only American - to have landed a trick featuring four twists and three flips. That jump was once reserved for men. Caldwell gained plenty of attention almost immediately as a teenage rookie, finishing in the top 15 in her first three World Cup events and claiming a silver medal at the U.S. nationals in 2010, a feat she repeated the following year.
