Career Highlights:

Doherty represents the future of biathlon in the United States. He’s the youngest person ever to be named to the Olympic team and his appearance in Sochi will come less than a year after he graduated from high school. This is Doherty’s first season on the senior national team, and he earned his place the hard way by joining Russell Currier to outduel three-time Olympian Jeremy Teela and Casey Smith for the last two spots in the final World Cup event before the squad was announced. Doherty starred in the 2013 junior world championships, winning gold in the pursuit and silver in the individual and sprint events to become the most decorated biathlete at that competition. Doherty is an adept skier but needs improvement in shooting, like most American biathletes. His shooting technique needs work since he began about six years ago. Gaining a spot on the 2014 team was a bit unexpected for Doherty, whose trip to Sochi could be one of many Olympic journeys for him if he continues his meteoric rise.
