Winter Games Athletes
Teller will compete in the Olympics for the first time, serving as the only American in ski cross - male or female. He nearly qualified for the U.S. Alpine team before walking away from competitive skiing for several years, working as a mechanic in the family business while starting a family. However, it wasn’t long before the competitive bug bit him again, and at the suggestion of a friend, Teller gravitated toward the relatively new freestyle discipline of ski cross. Teller became the first American to win a World Cup event in ski cross in 2011 and also won gold at the X Games that year. He had only two podium finishes during the 2012 World Cup season and one the following year. During the current World Cup season, Teller has one victory Jan. 17, but has finished no higher than 11th in seven other events.
