Bretz was on a snowboard at the age of 5 and has been competing since he was 10, but his promising career really began to take off in earnest in 2008. That year, he earned several medals on both the World Cup and Grand Prix circuits and became the youngest member of the U.S. national team at the tender age of 17. Two seasons later, Bretz took his skills to another level on the Grand Prix Tour. He notched top-10 finishes on three U.S. stops, qualifying for a spot at the Vancouver Games, where he placed 12th. Although he’s been forced to battle through a handful of nagging injuries, Bretz has consistently earned top-10 finishes on big stages such as the Winter X Games, Winter Dew Tour and Burton U.S. Open the past two years. Known for his double cork maneuvers, Bretz locked up his second straight Olympic berth with a sixth-place showing at this year’s Grand Prix tour, and he'll be looking to improve on that in Sochi.
