Shorr was an accomplished gymnast as a youngster before discovering her true passion on the slopes. With her two older brothers and fellow Olympian Danny Davis, who grew up in the same area, serving as her inspiration, Shorr began competing in snowboarding in 2008. She would take her skills to another level two years later, finishing third in the slopestyle event and fourth in the halfpipe at the USASA Nationals, and fifth at the Revolution Tour in slopestyle. Still a relative unknown at that point in boarding circles, Shorr began to make some noise with three wins en route to the 2012 Revolution Tour overall title. Even though she didn’t have the experience of some of the other riders vying for Sochi berths, Shorr became a surprising factor as she continued to come up big in the trials. She was not initially named to the team after claiming runner-up finishes at two different qualifiers and ended up third overall based on the U.S. tiebreaker formula. However, Shorr eventually got the call from U.S. coaches, who gave her one of the final two spots on the American squad to compete in the games' inaugural slopestyle competition.
