Winter Games Athletes
Born into a family of snowboarders, Kotsenburg began hitting the slopes at the age of five and would make his U.S. Open debut just seven years later. Kotsenburg enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season in 2010, winning a Dew Cup, taking home fifth at the Winter X Games and second at the European X Games in the slopestyle event. Kotsenburg landed the first Cab double cork 1440 at the Air & Style competition in 2011. He placed third at the Arctic Challenge and took bronze at the X Games on the way to being named to the U.S. slopestyle team in December 2011. Kotsenburg continued his impressive run in 2012 by taking silver at the X Games and second at the U.S. Grand Prix. This past season, Kotsenburg jumped from 21st on the World Snowboard Tour slopestyle rankings all the way up to 10th. He secured his first Olympic berth with a victory - his first in almost a decade - at the U.S. Grand Prix in January 2014. Now the big air specialist will get the chance to compete alongside star Chas Guldemond when the slopestyle discipline makes its Olympic debut in Sochi.
