Winter Games Athletes
The addition of the slopestyle event to the Olympic program has brought some exciting new riders to Sochi, and Walker is one of the top snowboarders of that youth movement. On the rise since she took up the sport at age seven, Walker brought home three consecutive Burton European Junior Open titles from 2009-11. In addition, she picked up victories at the Roxy Powder Jam, USASA Nationals and U.S. Revolution Tour in 2011. That same year, Walker made her debut on the U.S. team with a third-place finish at the Canadian Open and seventh-place showing at the Arctic Challenge. The young gun took a step back from competing in 2012, instead focusing on training in order to ultimately earn a spot on the squad that would head to Sochi. Her hard work paid off, as 2013 saw her rise up to 10th place in the world rankings and lead all American women with a fifth-place finish at world championships. Just 16 years old, Walker will be one of the youngest - and smallest, at just 5-feet tall - athletes at the Winter Games.
